To the Press and the Public

Maternity law stands among the most sacred traditions passed down from ancient civilizations. It defines motherhood through the revered essence of the Mother Goddess—a figure venerated for millennia. The land of Kurdistan has offered humanity a priceless legacy through this wisdom. These lands, enriched by the grace of the Holy Mother, pulse with her emotions. Here, children are raised with both moral depth and political awareness, cultivating the spirit of community.
The maternal tradition, expressed through Kurdish cultural practices such as zılgıt (a celebratory cry), lorik (a form of poetic lullaby), and forms of righteous anger or protective vigilance, has fostered a powerful resistance to the forces that sought to erase the beauty of society and the dignity of women.
The heritage of defiance upheld by figures like Bese, Zarife, and Rindeksan has been reinforced through this philosophy, with their cultural revolution enduring to this day—rooted in historical awareness and a resolute feminist vision. Above all, motherhood in Kurdistan represents a rebellion against bondage and a fervent quest for freedom. ÜVEYŞ, the catalyst of a historic uprising, instilled the earliest principles of women’s resistance. She awakened the dream of a liberated life and became a trailblazer of cultural renewal in Kurdistan.
A truly free individual—who sees betrayal of the mother, the giver of life, as a denial of one’s own being—first learns from her wisdom. It was she who revived the legacy of emancipated women in this region. The identity and societal role of the liberated woman, deeply rooted in the ideology of women’s freedom, owes much to the pioneering path forged by ÜVEYŞ. This lineage of free women, confronting regressive powers through knowledge, defiance of oppression, and unwavering opposition to fascism and colonialism, welcomes this spring with hope and the promise of a renewed awakening.
As a leading force for peace and democracy, we are closer than ever to building new, free societal structures inspired by the time-honored resistance of our foremothers. Our dedication to shaping a future rooted in liberty—guided by the wisdom of the past—has never been stronger. We will carry forward the struggle that brought us here, ensuring that the legacy of free women endures across these lands, upholding the sacred law of motherhood.
On this foundation, we honor with deep respect and gratitude all mothers who have borne the flame of resistance to this day. We especially commemorate our mothers ÜVEYŞ and SAKİNE, who endured the harshest of times without a word of complaint, devoting their lives to this noble cause. We reaffirm our unwavering promise to realize the aspirations for peace and freedom voiced by all mothers—the true heralds of harmony—through the democratic society we are committed to building.
